2019 Houston Festival, "Had Me A Blast"

Where to begin??
Here is the pack out for classes and other presentations.
Could be worse;)

Quilt shown is 'Harvest Nights' available here:
Arriving in Houston and my first time going alone without my
designer friend, SuznQuilts.
We have been going to Houston together for 10 years.
Here is the wall of 2019 Houston Festival Faculty
and I am blown away to be included
 amongst these amazingly talented women!
I am bottom row, 3rd from the right.
There was a cool wall that had photos of
classes that still had openings.
Quilters are visual and being able to see the
pic right there was helpful.
I know this because I was listening:)

It was the Sapphire year and the
Blue and White exhibit was
extraordinarily hung and
exhilarating to stand within!
PLUS, I was completely over the moon to be
able to spend the day walking the exhibit
with Pepper Cory!! We have known each other
for years but only have enough time for what I call
"drive by hugs" whenever at Market.
This year schedules allowed for quite a bit more! :)

 I taught my, 'Swimming Seahorse'
class to a group of fantastic women who
were real sports about the weird disco
lighting we dealt with at the beginning.
These next 3 pics show the room that
the Sampler Forum is presented in.
The top pic is my presentation of
FABRIC COLLABORATIONS.
Here is my view of the door and everyone lining up
to come in.  When they were allowed, people came
in racing to the quilter they really wanted to see...
it was fun to watch!
The pic below is of my SCRAPPLIQUE'
presentation.
This forum is great for getting to see how a teacher
presents her ideas and what the idea is but done
in a round robin setting so you can move
from teacher to teacher as you see fit.

I signed up for 2 MEET the TEACHERS
presentations so here is the schedule
and the space allowed for talking to quilters.
I had a stage and a microphone...
So Much Fun!
As someone who doesn't cook, I am
always impressed by those who can whip stuff up.
I need a recipe!

My Awesome roommates, Tara Reilly and Debby Brown Quilts, cooked for me. Debby Brown Quilts made this butternut squash risotto which was cheesy and creamy and delicious. And, we are in the same issue of Quilter's World right now where I have a cute design within but Debby writes a regular column to help you with your machine quilting problems like thread breaking. She is a wealth of information!
"I’m honored to be published in the same magazine as the incredibly talented Robin Koehler. Check out the latest issue of Quilter’s World Magazine for Robin’s pattern and my machine quilting column. #debbybrownquilts @nestlings1 #quiltersworld #quiltersworldmagazine #quilting #quilts #quilt #machinequilting"

Entrance to Festival and me with my Faculty Tag:)
I have dear dear friends in Mobile who let me
take advantage of them on my way to and from
Houston with a free room to stay.
Della has been a mentor, a big sister,
and the most amazing cheerleader
anyone could hope for in life!
I am honored to call her my friend and this was our view on my
way home...sunset over the bridge with a margarita in hand.

Thank you to everyone who came by to say HI and listen to my presentations
and look forward to coming to your guild!

WINTERBERRIES

This block design is so versatile and I knew that I wanted it in Christmas colors so I started pulling shades of green and red and throwing them on the floor so I could think on them.

Isn't this a sweet little print?!
It gives so many colors to play with.

Let the chain piecing begin and be
mindful of those 1/4" alignments.

Here is a picture of a test block so you can
see it in another colorway ...very sweet!
The more important part of this picture is showing the alignment
of the triangles to the block.
It looks like a hot mess but it all goes together and
then you trim.

 All trimmed!
 Blocks going together....
What if you laid them all out into columns of triangles?
Lastly, here were 2 other lay outs that measured
80" square and all done by rotating the blocks.

“During the winter months, the bursts of red and green that keep our spirits up are evident in the flutter of a cardinal, the pots of poinsettias decorating doorways, and the holly trees full of bright-red berries. Of course, the bigger inspiration is figuring out how many different designs I can create from rearranging these two blocks. That will while away the winter hours.”—designer Robin Koehler of Nestlings by Robin

Graduation and Elementals

THANK YOU CONNECTING THREADS
 for great write ups!
Meet Graduation...

We love how the graduating tones of this quilt provide the perfect backdrop for these gorgeous quilt blocks. This modern, stylish design is sure to brighten up any room!

Finished size: 60-1/2" x 72-1/2". $57

I had an idea of doing a series of blocks that used the same
components and graduate them in difficulty.
It turned out so well that we decided to do it in 2 fabric lines
in 2 different layouts.

Meet Elementals, named for the fun nature line.

This beautiful quilt is a fantastic opportunity to sew, one block at a time! A fantastic skill builder that will look stunning in any room.

Finished size: 48-1/2" x 72-1/2".  $59

Great kit deals for lap size quilts that will
be easy to make and fun to give!

Remembrance & QOV

REMEMBRANCE REVISITED
I met Terry and Ruth at Fall Paducah in September. They are involved with Quilts of Valor and we discussed what a great kit my 'Remembrance' quilt would be for that organization.
Then the fun idea of miniaturizing the design was introduced to the conversation and I knew there should be enough fabric from the kit to make a mini because Connecting Threads is very generous with their kits.

I cannot express how exciting it is to receive pictures of completed quilts from makers!  Thank you, Terry and Ruth, for sharing your lovely work with all of us and for all you do for our Veterans.

If you are involved with QOV, here are some links to take a peek at.
QOV is always looking for volunteers: https://www.qovf.org/

Connecting Threads has partnered with and is offering a thread collection: https://www.connectingthreads.com/quilts-of-valor-thread-set/p/21541

My 'Remembrance' kit is available here:
The pattern is also available here:

THANK YOU VETERANS!
