Do Pumpkins delight you?

I absolutely LOVE pumpkins and to date, this along with Hawaiian Halloween had been my only two patterns. Everyone who has seen this cutie has loved it so I don't know why it took me so long to design more pumpkins.
HARVEST NIGHTS #411
I decided that for Spring Market '13, I was going to have a completely Pumpkin booth and I almost made it....Autumn Wind isn't pumpkins but definitely completes the season for me.
AUTUMN WIND #430
When thinking of Autumn, I knew I wanted pumpkins and lots of them. My brain also kept coming back to crisp fall evenings and how bright the stars shine then. It felt natural to do night skies with star blocks with my pumpkins.

SIMPLY PUMPKINS #431
Pumpkin Star was actually one of the first to be designed because after studying Harvest Nights, I asked "what if" about switching the positions and putting the pumpkin in the star.
PUMPKIN STAR #432
Lace Pumpkin has been a sketch on a napkin for years and sometimes those ideas just don't come together immediately the way you want them to.  It sat and waited until I was ready and then the ideas came quickly.

LACE PUMPKIN #433
I LOVE these little red flowers in Lace Pumpkin and I have always been drawn to designs done in quadrants, wreaths, circles.  So it felt natural to take the flowers and do something different other than pumpkins.  This layout in another color way would fit into any season: Pinks for spring, change the yellow to white for red, white, and blue patriotic, etc.
As I looked at the circular design, it reminded me of ladies skirts swirling and that is how the word 'Cotillion' made it into the name.
AUTUMN COTILLION #434

PUMPKIN TRELLIS #435
Pumpkin Trellis is just so sweet to me!  I obviously started with the Lace Pumpkin design and thought it would look adorable in red work.  I really like Weeks Dye Works variegated flosses from my cross stitch days though, and so I found the right colors and got to work.  Since I wasn't stitching star blocks in, something had to take up that space...a Trellis.  They have always held a charm for me.  Who knows why when I can't grow anything to save my life:)

Pumpkin Trellis mini 9-1/2" x 11-1/2"
Just when the layout was done and I was ready to go, I accidently clicked a button and this beige background with black popped up on the computer screen.  Well I had to do it and in the mini format too.  It is just too cute!!

There is plenty of time to make one of these fabulous designs in time for the season and they can be found on my website!

Stay tuned for more quilting fun!

Vine Time

"Vine Time"
11" w x 12 1/2" h mounted to 14" painted canvas
$170.00 plus shipping

This piece was created after learning how to use tyvek as a design element. The tyvek here is the grape cluster. The cluster was created using a hand dye fabric covered with green painted tyvek which was then melted. The additional 3D leaves are also melted tyvek. The binding is stitched with machine embroidery and then beaded.

Grapes to me are timeless and a constant design source. The beauty of vineyards and the luscious colors the leaves and grapes offer for artists is endless. My dining room and kitchen are designed with grapes and they sneak into my work sometimes too.

Art will be bubble wrapped and boxed appropriately for shipping and comes with a Certificate of Origin and Fiber Art Care instructions.
Shipping Insurance can be added for an additional fee at your request.
You will be notified by email when the item is shipped.
International orders please contact me for separate fees: robin@nestlingsbyrobin.com

Unknown Sunflower block

This is an unknown sunflower block that is asking for help in being identified.
I met a very sweet woman who would like to finish a project that her, now deceased, sister started. This is a story that has played out numerous times in families all across the world and I am happy to be a small part of the process of completing this labor of love.
Sis was very organized as far as labeling all the bags with letters and numbers along with the size of the blocks contained within. The only thing missing is the actual pattern.
As far as we can tell, there are 12 flowers: 6 of the gold and rust and 6 of gold and black. We are guessing 12 since we found 12 completed blocks with a stem and 2 leaves. None of the sunflowers have been completed but a dedicated few were able to puzzle a block together to allow a plan to be put into action. I wrote some directions for her to follow as phase one but I am sure we all agree that knowing where you are going is extremely helpful.
Any help in locating a pattern would be most definately appreciated.
Thank you!

5 Years

"Batik Blooms" detail shot.
Honorable Mention CCQG 2008

For those of you who read my post about the International Fiber Collaborative leaves, here is the update. The tree is up and looks amazing. There are pictures on that site of how they made the wire branches for assembly too.

I know we all hate paying taxes; but when I wrote the check this last quarter, I was pretty happy about it since it showed that I actually made some money this time. The amount coming in certainly softened the blow of having to pay some out. As long as the money keeps coming in I will proudly pay my taxes!

This next week I will celebrate the 5 year anniversary of NESTLINGS by Robin. I sent out promotional postcards for the first time offering 'no shipping' on wholesale orders of 12 or more patterns. If you are reading this and not a shop owner but would like to purchase retail from http://www.nestlingsbyrobin.com/ I will offer no shipping on retail orders of 2 or more patterns. Spread the word. Offer ends May 9th, 2009.
I feel very honored to have been able to do what I love for 5 yrs and to learn from so many talented and wonderful people along the way. You have each touched me in different ways and I thank you.

The Tree Project

The International Fiber Collaborative will be assembling a full-sized tree in April. They will be needing up to 30,000 leaves made of fiber in some form. I am a fiber artist and so I grabbed some scraps and away I went....SO MUCH FUN!
I used darker strips on the back side so they would be reversible. The batting was lightly sprayed with basting spray and the strips were put down in a 'v' format. After quilting the strips in various swirls and squiggles, I used a freezer paper template leaf form to stitch around. I then cut away the excess and satin stitched the edges.
I am excited to send these in and then follow the project to see what happens. If you have some scraps and a couple of extra hours, be a part of a collaborative just for the fun of it.
