BABY LOVE

Out on stands now is the
January 2020 issue of AQ magazine.

My new design, BABY LOVE, is
featured within on page 64.
I was very thankful to have Ann Hamel's
(AQ's fantastic editor) advice on
what is trending with baby colors since I
am not a grandma and so a bit out of the loop:)
Once I had my lovely Shadow Play
fabric from Maywood Studios, I
went shopping for some basic thread
and found the perfect pink with my
mother's name:)
Then it was time to get to work
paper piecing these simple little blocks.
When it is time to place the applique',
using the full sized template with
holes poked through key spots is
helpful for aligning
heart and elements perfectly.
While in Paducah this past September,
AQS let me tape a short video with my
way of doing hand applique' and tips.
You can watch it HERE!

 Time to assemble the blocks!
In addition to pinning straight
through the points for alignment,
you can peek at the seams to
see if they are lining up.
Those 1/4" seam allowances
should align nicely.
If you sew your rows together,
this makes a nice easy quilt-as-you-go.
If you are a wonderful machine quilter,
the freezer paper templates are
a great source for quilting designs
in the open white areas of the blocks.

If machine quilting isn't your "thing",
let the professionals do it and save time!
I thought I would add pink hearts in
the open areas and add some free-
motion quilting inside.....NOPE!
I hated it and it took me twice as long
to rip it as it did to quilt it.
 I was SO MUCH HAPPIER
when I paid my sweet friends,
Toddy and Ray Sumsky to
quilt it for me!
 Add your label....DONE!
You can even purchase the kit!

NESTLED BABIES

I am not sure why I started designing in 'baby', but they are mighty cute and I will be ready when the first grand bundle arrives someday.....

BABY BLOCK PILLOW
This little cutie was based on a crocheted block I made when my first child was born.  It was so much quicker to quilt:)  It contains the whole alphabet for personalizing plus appliques for girls or boys.

JUST HANGIN' OUT

Just Hangin' Out was designed from another monkey quilt I made and never finished because I hated the fabric I chose.  It seemed right at the time but after marinating in the closet for 4 years my tastes had changed.  Can anyone relate??

FIREFLIES

I have designed so many quilts using a tessellation program and Fireflies is one of them. Someday I will get around to doing a girlie version:)

BABY BOTTLE ROCKETS

BINKY BLOOMS

A good play on words will get me every time....
Baby Bottle Rockets and Binky Blooms were so fun to dream up!!
Binky Blooms can now be found in my ETSY
shop as a downloadable pattern:)

SPRING POND
Spring Pond is delightful and sweet and great for twins:))  When I was a little girl the idea of twins was just so appealing.  When I got pregnant for the first time I hoped it was twins.  After I had the baby, I was SO thankful it was NOT twins!  Anyone else have that crazy dream??

LECTURE / TRUNK SHOW

HOUSTON 2011 BOOTH
EVERY quilt has a story and when your guild books my lecture #HHCIB, How Hard Could It Be, they get the fun and weird stories of how I arrived at this point in my journey as well as the quilt stories too!  Lots of eye candy and laughs and nodding of heads! We have more in common than we think.

Description: "One GIANT Show & Tell from start to present.  Meet Robin Koehler and hear how she stumbled upon this journey of quilting and design.  Trunk show quilts include 1st quilt, some winning quilts, pattern quilts, quilts juried into Paducah and Mancuso Mid-Atlantic shows, and a few art quilts just for fun."

Minneapolis Spring Market Part 1

WELCOME TO MINNEAPOLIS
I found this photo online and it is a beautiful and
artistic shot of a wonderful city!
So after MONTHS of working hard designing, quilting, writing, editing, photographing, packaging, and packing, the day finally arrives:)
Here is my booth, with sign, showing me the way to my home away from home for the next few days!  You can see the many booths beyond me....
To the right, Bird Brain Designs and one of the fabric companies.
To the left, Quilting (magazines, etc.) and of course you can see the Giant NORTHCOTT box in front of us:)
Our entry to quilting magic!

GET PUMPED buttons to spread the word about the most comfortable shoes you will ever own:)
This group of booth mates should look familiar to you by now.  Have friends will travel and they actually like to be near me too:)
Go figure...We try to be near one another at Market since we usually travel alone and may have to go to the bathroom at some point!  (NO, I don't mean we need other women to come to the bathroom with us:)

Meet Susan Marth of Suzn Quilts.  Her booth bloomed in Dresden Plates this year. I know we shouldn't covet but, oh man do I want that quilt directly behind her!  I may have to make one in Red for myself:)

Here is Celine Perkins of Perkins Dry Goods.  She has a fun way of using traditional designs and making them her own.  Look at how cute that Christmas pattern on the table is...reminds me of Christmas Crackers.

Susan Knapp of The Quilt Branch with her booth mate Karen. Some really neat designs going on over here including a bag so big you can pack for days in it!  Who doesn't need one of those??

Have you met Cheryl?  THE Cheryl Sleboda!  She stopped by and she is too cute which matches her web name: Muppin:))))
When in Minneapolis......We had the opportunity to eat at a local landmark that will unfortunately be closing: Nye's Polonaise   Wow, the whole atmosphere takes you back including these cool glass lamps.  Delicious food too.  I had a polish soup that was so comforting that I could have eaten a whole pot!

I hope you enjoyed Part 1...stay tuned for part 2:)
