I am SO excited to finally

have this design out in the world:)

and in one of my favorite

color combinations!

These fabrics have been

waiting for me to get my

butt in gear as they sat

patiently for years in this fun 

monogram bag given to me by

my friend, Susan!

The daisy inspiration came

from these ca 1970 home items,

(match tin & recipe card box)

which were found while treasure

hunting with same sweet friend!

All the fabrics cut and 

awaiting assembly into 

one of the cutest and 

easiest blocks in quilting.

The Churn Dash is so

versatile and easy to 

chain piece while watching

your favorite movie on a

chilly winter day!

Once your blocks are done,

stitch them into the 

appropriate rows, 

pinning at seams.

The perfection of this 

design is that you only

have to make half the blocks

needed because the other

half of the quilt is done

in negative space:)

That negative area

is the airy space for 

our daisies!

Using a teflon pressing sheet

to assemble to full flowers,

allows the daisies to be

auditioned on the 

assembled background

before fusing in place.

They can be put anywhere 

you would like them!

I chose a gold variegated

thread that matched my 

centers to stitch my

petal edges down.

I thought it may help

them stand out against 

the background a bit.

Use black if you want

more differentiation or 

white for less.

So many ways to go:)

WHERE did summer go??

 WOW!

I looked up and it is September already:)

Hopefully this means that your summer was 

as busy and fun as mine was and you are 

just as surprised as I am.

Since I last wrote, this is what I 

have been up to...

VEGAS

I will never get to actual Venice so a gondola ride 

at the Venetian was lovely especially when 

you have the BEST singer in the whole city

and you are with your best friend and love!

I knew I knew a few songs BUT,

I knew way more and had an 

awesome night dancing with 

my sweet sweet Della!!

When in Vegas, you must go see

the exhibit at the Bellagio!

They were still setting up and allowed

people to walk around and look at 

everything while in process.

ATLANTA SYMPOSIUM

Here is our awesome group at the 

Atlanta Quilt Symposium this year.

Cathy Glover presented a FAB lecture

on polyester quilts.

So Much to learn!

I hope to have an opportunity

to go again. These meet ups always

offer an opportunity to nerd out about

quilting and meet new friends.

JULY TRIP TO MOM/KIDS

In July my husband and I went 

to visit mom and get a few things

done around the house. The 

weather did NOT cooperate.

After, we headed to NC to visit

the whole fam:) of both girls, 

their guys, and my little man!!

One day we met mom halfway

so she could spend some time 

with her great grandson!

He is learning how to blow bubbles!

AUG-FQSG & KID VISIT

Another FAB opportunity to meet old

and new friends for a day of quilt study.

Led by our fearless Kathy Cray and Teddy Pruett, 

we learned about early 20th century quilts 

and our members never disappoint on show/tell!

FIRST VIRTUAL CLASS

I ventured in the world of virtual teaching!

I was a bit worried about the tech but

the students were awesome and I 

couldn't have wished for a better first experience.

MAGAZINES

I was in a few magazines this summer:)

Apple Baskets in AQ Magazine

 

Hello Apple Baskets!

Now appearing in the January 2022

issue of American Quilter Magazine,

this delightful reproduction of 

an antique quilt in my collection

brings that red and green 

cheer to any home.

When I started thinking about 

how to reproduce my very large

collection of red and green

applique' quilts from the 1800s, 

I truly considered making a one

off (in miniature) of every 

single quilt until I counted-LOL!!!

The idea eventually turned into

my Well-Loved Ladies Sampler.

I am so pleased I did the 

sampler but there were

one or two that had been 

started and needed to 

be seen through to completion.

Apple Baskets was one of

those ideas I just couldn't put away.

The border circles are so fun!

My original sample is done

with needle-turn applique' but

as always, I have written the 

instructions for fusible applique'

so you can get it done in this 

lifetime:) and have it up for 

next Christmas!

As I was saying....

I had shrunk the shoes down so

I could recreate a picture I had

taken in South Beach, FL. of 

a shop window full of 

crystal decorated shoes.

I am not a "shoe" person but 

all that color and shiny...LOL!

So one day I am chatting with 

a friend and, Voila', 

this darling mini variation

is imagined.

Bramble Blooms

 The May issue of AQ Magazine is out and you will 
find my Bramble Blooms within its fine pages.

Let's talk fabrics:)

My fabric supplier was very

generous with this HARLOW 

collection from Northcott.

There is some truth to having too many decisions:)

Sometimes you need to try a new

technique, quilt style, or in this

case, a new block.

I have an affinity for pinwheel

blocks and tried something new 

this time by splitting one square of 

a half-square triangle set up 

before stitching together.  

It gives some fun extra movement.

Then you chain piece

every step of the process

so that you can stay on 

track and not mix 

up the steps.

Remember when I said I had too

many choices?  

When it came time to decide how

to make my applique' POP, it

got hard:)

My color aesthetic is not to mix

cream and white due to the 

cool/warm tones possibly clashing.

I really thought my flowers should be 

cream to blend in with the cream

background tones of the prints.

The chartreuse really threw me and

I felt it would be too in your face against

the soft pastels of the hydrangeas; but it looked

SO good with the white and gave

that POP I wanted my flowers to have.

Sometimes going out of your comfort 

zone gives you a surprise and opens

your design choices up for the 

next project.

I mixed cool and warm, bright and soft tones

and ended up loving it.

This is one of my favorite 

quilting motifs that I like

to repeat throughout a project.

I also like to do scribble or 

wiggle stitches along a raw

edge applique' for the 

ease of getting it done.

Lastly, don't forget to label your work 

and it can be as easy as using a micron pen:}

FQSG Antique Quilt Block Challenge

The March 2021 issue of 

AQ magazine is out and inside

you will find an article by Moi :)

Last year the Florida Quilt

Study Group did an antique

block challenge with very

few rules, thankfully!

I was overly ambitious and 

worked on 2 blocks because 

each had different fabrics that spoke 

to me. Using techniques 

from my Fabric Collaborations

workshop, I created 2 unique pieces 

and then wrote an article about 

the process for AQ.

Our Fabulous exhibit is 

now on display

at THE Quilters Hall of Fame

in Marion, Indiana.

Florida Quilt Study Group:

Antique Quilt Block Challenge

The challenge was to take an antique block and incorporate it into a small quilt measuring 24" x 24." Artists were allowed to use the block whole, cut up, or dismantled. The could add vintage or new fabrics; whatever it takes to create a quilt of their own design and creativity.

AND, I made the exhibit poster

which is super exciting!!
