Benartex 4th Quarter Fun

 Welcome back for some Benartex fun!

For my 4th quarter project, I have

been playing with the American Spirit 

line by Cheryl Haynes of Prairie Grove Peddler.

These were the fabrics I chose

to work with for this project

but there are many others 

to choose from.

If you saw my Ohio remix

in the Fat Quarterly in October, 

then you may know where this

is going:)

I took that block along with

another arrangement and

combined them with a

sweet and simple border applique'.

In January this new design,

'In Gratitude', will be available 

for purchase through my ETSY shop.

I love that it is simple to assemble

to help those creating quilts for QOVF!

In the meantime there are the holidays to 

enjoy with all my sweeties, more blocks

to finish, a new long arm quilter to find 

since I have moved:)

I hope you find a way to make the

CHURNED DAISIES:)

On shelves now is the

I am SO excited to finally

have this design out in the world:)

and in one of my favorite

color combinations!

These fabrics have been

waiting for me to get my

butt in gear as they sat

patiently for years in this fun 

monogram bag given to me by

my friend, Susan!

The daisy inspiration came

from these ca 1970 home items,

(match tin & recipe card box)

which were found while treasure

hunting with same sweet friend!

All the fabrics cut and 

awaiting assembly into 

one of the cutest and 

easiest blocks in quilting.

The Churn Dash is so

versatile and easy to 

chain piece while watching

your favorite movie on a

chilly winter day!

Once your blocks are done,

stitch them into the 

appropriate rows, 

pinning at seams.

The perfection of this 

design is that you only

have to make half the blocks

needed because the other

half of the quilt is done

in negative space:)

That negative area

is the airy space for 

our daisies!

Using a teflon pressing sheet

to assemble to full flowers,

allows the daisies to be

auditioned on the 

assembled background

before fusing in place.

They can be put anywhere 

you would like them!

I chose a gold variegated

thread that matched my 

centers to stitch my

petal edges down.

I thought it may help

them stand out against 

the background a bit.

Use black if you want

more differentiation or 

white for less.

So many ways to go:)

Still love the Magic sizing 

for PRESSING all my seams

nice and flat.

*You see my favorite 

Bohin pencil is back.

That will come in handy

depending on the value

of your fabrics if you 

are doing hand applique'.

my applique' (especially

cutting into V points/curves.

Let's not forget my 

favorite hand applique'

thread: 50wt Aurifil thread.

The Add-a-Quarter (R) 

ruler 12" is a great asset

for making sure you don't

accidentally cut off a 

seam allowance....

HOPE for Christmas:)

HOPE

I don't know where my

grandpa got his love of candles

but it passed down to my

mother and to me.

For years one of my shopping

highlights was going to 

Yankee Candle every season

to see what new wonderful

candle décor was available.

Being brought up Catholic

there were many opportunities 

for candle lighting.

Once old enough to light my

own candle in thought or 

remembrance of another was

a big deal for me.

I enjoyed the ceremonial aspect

 of lighting the candle then 

kneeling to prayer.

Then there were the Advent candles

every Christmas season and the 

Easter wreath as well.

I do believe most people 

have a fascination with flame.

On to the quilt:)

Easy 4 patches shown above

helped make this little piece 

everything I wanted it to be. 

Small enough to be a weekend 

project with that bit of 

holiday charm to it.

No reason it can't be done 

in blue to celebrate our 

Jewish friends as well.

Of course, we all know

I made mine by hand:) but 

the instructions are written

for fusible so you can 

be ahead of the gift-giving season.

As I was saying....

I had shrunk the shoes down so

I could recreate a picture I had

taken in South Beach, FL. of 

a shop window full of 

crystal decorated shoes.

I am not a "shoe" person but 

all that color and shiny...LOL!

So one day I am chatting with 

a friend and, Voila', 

this darling mini variation

is imagined.
